Last Week Days Twenty-Six and Twenty-Seven (Hours 125 - 135)

My last week at The Rick and Bubba Show proved that this whole experience was worth every 3:30 a.m. alarm clock. I have had the privilege to work with some of the most humble, patient, loud, and humorous guys that I know. (And being "loud" is a good thing because it kept me awake during the show).
I have learned what it's like to work in a fast-paced environment with people who take a lot of criticism for what they say. Not only did I gain experience in editing, but I also got to work with cameras for the Heartland Network. That was my favorite part.
The Rick and Bubba fan base definitely helps make the show. Some fans called in to wish me luck with everything in my future. That's when I realized how much everyone at the show means to them.

It's definitely easy to feel comfortable around the guys, but (for future interns) remember that you came to work. There's a time for work and a time for play. You have to help prepare and make the show happen. Ask questions if you don't remember how to do something or if you want to learn more about something if you're not sure how it works.

My last interview went great. We discussed my future, Rick applauded me on my hard work, and I got to joke around with the guys for the last time. It was an interview that I'll never forget.

Thank you to the Rick and Bubba crew for all you've done for me! I couldn't ask for a better first internship experience!

Days Twenty-four and Twenty-five ( Hours 115 - 125 )

April 13, 2015

I arrived at the studio at 4:45 a.m. I set up the phone screening room, recorded the early show segment, and helped Speedy start the early show. This day, we had a special guest. Ryan Hunter Reay stopped by the studio before heading to Tuscaloosa to speak with Nick Saban. He talked about winning his recent race and what he thought about Nick Saban. The guys also covered Lou Holtz leaving ESPN, and Hillary Clinton launching her Presidential Campaign for 2016 Presidential bid.

April 15, 2015

This day, I arrived at the studio at 4:45 a.m. I set up the phone screening room, stocked the fridge, recorded, and helped Speedy start the early show. April fifteenth was tax day so many callers were calling in about how much money they paid to the government after filing their taxes. We had a contest to see who paid the most taxes and whoever had the most, won $100. There were many opposing views to Rick's "flat tax will fix this situation" proposition. So, the callers kept us busy. I also messed up on the graphics for the Heartland Network which was embarrassing. We covered topics like : tax day, Aaron Hernandez verdict, and if Alabama had a Mt. Rushmore.

Days Twenty-two and Twenty-three ( Hours 105 - 115 )

Monday April 6, 2015

This day I arrived at the studio at 4:45 am for the early show. I helped Speedy start off the show by assisting him with getting the top news stories together. I also helped Adler work the graphics on the screen. I recorded the show on the recorder. Some of the stories we covered were: Wisconsin vs. Duke Championship game, "Woodlawn" trailer, Rolling Stone Rape story.

Wednesday April 8, 2015

I arrived at the studio at 4:45 am and helped Speedy with the early show. I recorded and worked the graphics on the screen for the Heartland Network. We had a special guest this day. The comedian, Frank Caliendo, called in and stole the show. Helmsey spoke to the interns and wants us to start taking more pictures/videos in the studio so he can post them to all of Rick and Bubba's social media accounts. We also covered stories like: Officer charged with murder in South Carolina, Tiger Woods and his preparation for the Masters, and a Bobcat catching a shark.

Days Twenty and Twenty-one (Hours 95 - 105)

Monday March 23, 2015
I arrived at the early show at 4:45 am. I worked the cameras, phones, and recordings. We also had a bigger audience this day so I was running back and forth trying to make them comfortable.

Wednesday March 25, 2015
I arrived for the early at 4:45 am. Adler wasn't there this day because he was having nose surgery so we did a segment on him. Another intern and I got to be on air for a minute talking about how none of us knew Adler was going to have surgery today.
Towards the end of the regular show, I messed up the recording. That was frustrating.
We also had Ron Collier, a comedian in the Birmingham area, as a guest speaker. It was great to hear his story and laugh.

Days Eighteen and Nineteen (Hours 85 - 95)

March 9, 2015

This day I arrived at the studio at 4:45 a.m. and started the early show with Speedy, Helmsey, and Greg. After more interns arrived, I worked with Adler on cameras. Mainly, I helped switch the cameras from person to person depending on who's talking. I also helped with graphics by giving the audience a picture of what the guys are talking about on the show. I learned what keys to press in order for the picture to show up through the Heartland Network and what keys worked the graphics on the bottom of the screen. For example, their Facebook and Twitter accounts and their website.

March 11, 2015
I didn't do much this day. I arrived later than normal. I didn't get the chance to work the early show like I normally do, but I still made it through the normal six to ten show. I worked the cameras, phones, and the recordings.

Days Sixteen and Seventeen ( Hours 75 - 85)

March 2, 2015

This day was Dr. Seuss Day at the studio so, of course, Bubba brought out the Dr. Seuss hat. I arrived at 4:45 am for the early show. During the 8 o'clock hour, we had a local kindergarten class come to the studio so Rick could read the Green Eggs and Ham book live on the radio. The students were able to sit in the audience. During this time, I helped Adler work the cameras and the graphics for the Heartland Network.

March 4, 2015

I arrived at the studio at 4:45 am for the early show and was able to spend some time talking on air about my Garmin Connect watch and Helmey's Fitbit. I was able to share a little bit of my experience with my watch and how it motivates me to keep moving daily.
I also recorded and helped Adler with graphics and cameras.

Day Fifteen (Hours 70 - 75)

February 23, 2014

This day was  pretty awesome! I arrived at 4:45 am and helped work the early show. I recorded the show and phone screened. I also helped Speedy get stories together for the day. We had a guest caller at the 8 o'clock hour. Our guest caller was Donnie Osmond. He called to talk about his new greatest hits album. He also mentioned working with Michael Jackson when he was younger.
During his hour, I worked behind the scenes to help Adler prepare pictures to display of Donnie Osmond for the televised audience to see.
